Women's Volleyball Swept 3-0 by Queen's, St. Lawrence in Day 2 of VPI

CANTON, N.Y. – The Southern Vermont College women's volleyball team dropped both of its matches Saturday afternoon in Day 2 of the Victory Promotions Invitational hosted by SUNY Potsdam and St. Lawrence University. The Mountaineers fell to Queen's University from Canada and then to SLU, both by 3-0 tallies at St. Lawrence.

Southern Vermont is now 3-4 on the season as the match versus Queen's does not count against the Mountaineers' NCAA record.


Queen's 3, Southern Vermont 0

Southern Vermont fell to the Gaels by set scores of 25-2, 25-7, and 25-11.

Queen's finished the weekend as the VPI runner-up after Clarkson University was crowned champions.


St. Lawrence 3, Southern Vermont 0

The Saints defeated SVC with game scores of 25-7, 25-16, and 25-10.

Mountaineer junior Jessica Delgado (Los Angeles, Calif.) hit a team-high six kills and also notched four digs; she was named to the VPI All-Tournament Team for her weekend performance. Freshman Brin Goldman (Christiansted, Virgin Islands) followed with four kills, three digs and three assists. Senior Vanessa Ruelas (Paramount, Calif.) led the team with seven digs while senior Carrie Baltazar (Whittier, Calif.) recorded a team-high nine assists to along with her three digs.

Saint sophomore Rebecca Doser (Penfield, N.Y.) had a match-high seven kills while four other players had at least five. Sophomore Mariah Dignan (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) led all players with 12 digs, and senior Anna Kassab (Media, Pa.) had a match-high 16 assists.

The Mountaineers return to the court next weekend with the Mass. Institute of Technology Invitational; they first play Friday evening against Endicott College (6 p.m.) and Tufts University (8 p.m.) at Tufts.
