BENNINGTON, Vt. – Southern Vermont College senior outside hitter Jessica Alvarez (Los Angeles, Calif.) has been named the New England Collegiate Conference women's volleyball Player of the Week for the week ending October 7, 2012.
This is the second time in the 2012 season that Alvarez has garnered the accolade, also being named the Player of the Week back on September 10.
Alvarez helped lead the Mountaineers to a perfect 3-0 record last week, all matches being against conference opponents and won in three straight sets. She totaled 30 kills and only four errors on 51 attempts for a sterling .510 hitting percentage.
The senior also racked up 28 digs in the three wins from the back row and five service aces from behind the line.
Alvarez currently leads the NECC with 3.85 kills per set, a whole kill per set more than the second-ranking player. She is also second in hitting percentage with a .250, behind teammate Danielle Healis (Escondido, Calif.) who currently has a .409.
Alvarez and the Mountaineers continue conference play on Wednesday with a 7 p.m. home match against Bay Path College.
