Volleyball Finishes 2nd Straight 5-1 Week

POTSDAM, NY- The SVC Women's Volleyball program finished its second straight week of play with a 5-1 record. After the Mountaineers went 2-0 earlier in the week, SVC traveled to Potsdam, NY this weekend for the Victory Promotions Invitational. At the VPI tournament, Southern Vermont went 3-1 with victories over St. Lawrence, SUNYIT, and Plattsburgh St. while they lost to host SUNY Potsdam 3-2.

Friday night, Southern Vermont started the weekend with a 3-0 victory over St. Lawrence University. In the nightcap SVC beat SUNYIT 3-0 as well. Jessica Alvarez led the Mountaineers with 16 kills in the first match and added 11 more against SUNYIT. Danielle Healis had a flawless night, with 16 kills on 29 attempts without any errors. Roxy Domines set the attacking game for Southern Vermont with 24 assists in match one and 28 assists in the second match.

After a night of rest Southern Vermont took to the court to play SUNY Potsdam Saturday morning. As in the previous loss this season SVC jumped out to an early 2-1 lead. However, again the Mountaineers failed to win the final game to close out the match. SVC lost the final two games to Potsdam 25-19 and 15-12. The Mountaineers quickly bounced back though, with a 3-0 victory over Plattsburgh St. It was the second straight week SVC beat Plattsburgh 3-0.

The top performers on Saturday included Alicia Manzo and All Tournament selection Jessica Alvarez. Alvarez had 15 kills in each match Saturday as Manzo added 15 in the first match along with six more in the nightcap. Senior captain, Joanna Hogue  had 23 digs for SVC in the two matches. Hershey Canta  led the Mountaineers with 42 assists.

Southern Vermont will be off this week until the weekend when they travel to Kean University in New Jersey. SVC will play Goucher and Kean on Friday before taking on Ithaca and Philadelphia Biblical on Saturday.
