NASHUA, N.H. – The Southern Vermont College women's volleyball team's thrilling 2010 season came to an abrupt halt with a 3-0 loss to the Lesley University Lynx in the NECC Semis at Daniel Webster College Friday night. The Mountaineers finished 14-9 overall, its best season in history and enjoyed a remarkable turnaround after posting a combined record of 1-42 over the previous two seasons.
Lynx sophomore Amanda McCracken (Eldersburg, Md.) was simply stunning, registering a match high 20 kills against just three errors in 32 attempts to hit .531 as the Lynx powered past the upstart Mountaineers, 25-20, 25-17 and 25-21.
Megan Ortwein (Shanghai, China) and Maeghan Chadwick (Chelmsford, Mass.) added six kills apiece and combined for 29 digs as the Lynx outhit SVC 38-24 in total kills.
Kate Miller registered 33 assists, three aces and nine digs for the winners, while Cait Vandenburgh (Swansea, Mass.) added 14 digs.
Ashliy Veliz (Glendale, Cal.) led the Mountaineers with 12 kills and 16 digs, while Joanna Hogue (Los Gatos, Cal.) knocked down eight kills and added 15 digs.
