Southern Me. Sweeps SVC and Newbury In Tri-match

BROOKLINE, Mass. - The Southern Vermont College women's volleyball team lost to the University of Southern Maine Huskies 17-25, 9-25, 19-25 and the Newbury College Nighthawks 6-25, 15-25, 16-26 in Saturday's tri-match hosted by Newbury.  Sarah Golub tallied 26 digs on the day as she played a big role in SVC's defensive stance.

In the first match of the day, the Nighthawks swept Southern Vermont and were led by first year outside hitter Sara Hanna who had six kills in the match while also adding four service aces to her stat line. SVC stayed in the game with the help of Sarah Golub's 12 digs and Tasha Smith also had five service aces for the Mountaineers.

In the second match the Huskies defeated the Mountaineers in three straight. Southern Maine was paced by Shannon Shuttle who recorded 13 kills and six digs in the winning effort. Despite the loss, Kayleigh Moretto picked up nine kills and three digs for Southern Vermont. Golub once again played a strong defensive role notching 14 digs for SVC.

Southern Maine's Shuttle led all players with a tri-match high 26 kills, while teammate Netland led the way with 36 digs on the day.

The Mountaineers head to Johnson State College for a non-conference tri-match Saturday, October 24th. SVC faces Lyndon State College at 2:00 p.m.and Johnson St. at 4:00 p.m.
