LEICESTER, Mass. - The Southern Vermont College women's volleyball team lost 3-0 (25-19, 25-8, 25-12) to Becker College and 3-0 (25-12, 25-10, 25-11) to Bay Path College in an NECC Tri-Match hosted by the Hawks (Becker) Saturday.
Becker won both matches and improved to 8-13 overall and 3-2 in the NECC; while the Wildcats (Bay Path) split the matches winning against the Mountaineers (0-18 overall and 0-5 in the NECC) to improve to 3-13 overall and 1-5 in the NECC.
In match one, against Bay Path, Southern Vermont put up a good effort in the loss Freshman Shaniece Delgado (Bronx, NY/Sports Professionals HS) had one kill, three assists, and four digs in solid play for SVC. Also contributing defensively was freshman Tasha Smith (Capital Heights, MD/Suitland HS) who had four digs for the Mountaineers. Plagued once again by ball handling errors freshman Stephanie Berard (Manchester Center, VT/Mount Anthony Union HS) had fourteen of the team total 44 in the tri-match.
SVC faired better in the second match against the Hawks scoring 19 points in the first game. Leading the way for the Mountaineers was sophomore Kathleen Babcock (Vernon, CT/Rockville HS) who had five kills, one ace, three digs, and one block. Captains Kayleigh Moretto (Bow, NH/Bow HS) and Laura Sullivan (New Fairfield, CT/New Fairfield HS) each had strong matches encouraging their team every point won or lost. Moretto had seven kills, two assists, five digs, and three blocks for Southern Vermont.
The Mountaineers are back on the court Wednesday, October 22, on the road against SUNY-Cobleskill. The match starts at 7:00 p.m.
