BENNINGTON, Vt. — Southern Vermont College senior defender Karina Meza (Los Angeles, Calif.) has been named the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Women's Soccer Player of the Week for the period ending October 11, 2015 as announced by the league on Monday.
Meza helped SVC go 2-0 last week to extend the Mountaineers' winning streak to four games. She netted the first goal in a 3-0 win at Green Mountain on Wednesday for her third game winner of the year while supporting an SVC defense that posted its fourth shutout of the season. The senior then provided an assist in Southern Vermont's NECC win over Wheelock on Saturday, once again playing a big role on a defensive side that only conceded a single goal to the visiting Wildcats.
The honor is the first of its kind for an SVC women's soccer player since September of 2013.
The senior and the Mountaineers are back in action on Monday with a 2 p.m. league tilt at Mitchell College.
