Mascari Named NECC Women's Soccer Player of the Week

BENNINGTON, Vt. — Two days after celebrating a huge overtime league victory with major playoff implications, Southern Vermont College women's soccer sophomore keeper Melissa Mascari (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) was named the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Player of the Week for the period ending October 25, 2015.

Mascari had a memorable week for SVC, posting a pair of shutouts against teams that entered the contest with winning league records. She turned away 11 Becker shots for a valuable 2-0 NECC win on Tuesday. The sophomore then stopped all four of Regis' attempts on goal in a big 1-0 overtime victory against Regis on Saturday. Mascari held the Pride scoreless through regulation on Saturday, giving her team a chance to grab its first-ever win over Regis in eight all-time meetings during the extra stanza. Her two clean sheets give her four on the year and nine in her career, putting her just three shy of tying the program's all-time shutout record (12).

This is the first career Conference Player of the Week laurel for Mascari after she was selected as the NECC Rookie of the Week twice last year.

The Mountaineer goalie was joined in helping SVC sweep the NECC women's soccer weekly accolade by freshman Molly Madore (Higganum, Conn.) who picked up the Rookie of the Week laurel for the second time this season.

Mascari, Madore and the Mountaineers have two final regular season matches this week as they try to maintain their high Conference standing.
