CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — After 90 minutes of scoreless action at Edward Field Saturday afternoon, Southern Vermont College lost 1-0 to Lesley University in overtime of a New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) women's soccer game that concluded the regular season for both teams.
The hosting Lynx scored 4:41 into the extra stanza to pull out the league win and finish off an undefeated Conference schedule.
SVC finishes the regular season with a 10-6-1 overall record and a program-best 6-2-1 mark in NECC action. The Mountaineers now gear up for their NECC first round match on Tuesday, hosting Southern Vermont's first playoff game since becoming NCAA accredited; SVC awaits the result of Saturday night's game against Newbury College and Bay Path University that will determine who the Mountaineers will face.
Lesley owned a 22-3 advantage in total shots during regulation, but Southern Vermont sophomore keeper Melissa Mascari (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) was able to stop all 10 attempts on net to keep the hosts out of the goal and send the match to the additional session. Finally, LU broke through in the overtime with a strike from 10 yards out to celebrate its Senior Day victory.
