Mascari Named NECC Women's Soccer Rookie of the Week Again

BENNINGTON, Vt. – Southern Vermont College freshman Melissa Mascari (Saratoga Springs, New York) was named the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Women's Soccer Rookie of the Week for the period ending October 19, 2014 as announced by the league Monday morning.

Mascari posted two shutouts last week for the Mountaineers, giving them a pair of valuable conference wins while extending the team's winning streak to four and six of the last seven. The rookie made 14 saves Monday at Wheelock before turning away eight Mitchell shots on Saturday. She now has three clean sheets on the year and ranks second in the league in both saves (136) and save percentage (.861). Monday's honor is the second for Mascari in the 2014 season.

The rookie and the Mountaineers are back in league action this week with a pair of conference contests. SVC controls its own destiny to not only lock up a postseason berth but also host a first-round playoff game.
