ECAC Names Mascari DIII New England Rookie of the Week

BENNINGTON, Vt. — The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) announced its women’s soccer weekly accolades for the period ending October 19, 2014 on Tuesday with Southern Vermont College freshman Melissa Mascari (Saratoga Springs, New York) being selected as the Division III New England Rookie of the Week.

This marks the first time in SVC women’s soccer program history that a player has been chosen for an ECAC honor.

All players in New England receiving their respective conference’s rookie of the week accolade were eligible for this award. Mascari was named the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Women’s Soccer Rookie of the Week on Monday, the second time this season she has garnered the NECC laurel.

Mascari posted two shutouts last week for the Mountaineers, giving them a pair of valuable conference wins while extending the team's winning streak to four and six of the last seven. The rookie made 14 saves Monday at Wheelock before turning away eight Mitchell shots on Saturday. She now has three clean sheets on the year and ranks second in the NECC in both saves (136) and save percentage (.861).
