NASHUA, N.H. — Scoring all its goals in the first half, Southern Vermont College closed out a 3-0 win at Daniel Webster College Saturday afternoon in New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) women's soccer action.
SVC sophomore Lauren Nesshoever (Rutland, Vermont) scored the first goal of the day at the 19:43 mark, the eventual game winner and her sixth of the season being assisted by senior Lixsa Arlet Sandoval (Stockton, California).
Nesshoever then helped out with the next Mountaineer goal less than three minutes later, feeding classmate Melodie Orrell (Gloucester, Massachusetts) for her second goal of the year. Sandoval tallied her second of the 2014 campaign in the 31st minute, capitalizing on a play from junior Karina Meza (Los Angeles, California) to make it 3-0.
Mountaineer freshman keeper Melissa Mascari (Saratoga Springs, New York) recorded four saves for her first collegiate shutout (3-7) while Eagle freshman counterpart Shannon Grigas (Nashua, New Hampshire) stopped 21 SVC shots in the loss (0-2).
Southern Vermont owned a majority of ball possession in the half, finishing with a 35-6 shot advantage over DWC. The Mountaineers also had a 13-2 corner kick differential on the day.
Southern Vermont (3-7, 1-1 NECC) has the week off before hosting Newbury College next Saturday, October 11 for a 12 p.m. NECC kickoff. The Eagles (1-6, 0-2 NECC) are back in action on Tuesday with a 4 p.m. start at Pine Manor College in non-conference play.
