Women's Soccer Topped 1-0 by Lyndon St. at Norwich Classic

NORTHFIELD, Vt. – A lone first half goal by Lyndon State College was all that the Hornets would need to knock off the Southern Vermont College women's soccer team, defeating the Mountaineers 1-0 in the second day of the Second Annual Norwich Cadet Kick-Off Classic Sunday afternoon at Sabine Field on the Norwich University campus.

25:26 into the game, Lyndon senior Katy Ebner (East Hampstead, New Hampshire) spotted up and hit a shot from the top of the penalty box high on the frame of the net. SVC freshman keeper Melissa Mascari (Saratoga Springs, New York) was able to get her fingertips on the ball, but just couldn't deflect it enough to keep it out of the goal for the eventual game-winning goal.

Lyndon couldn't add insurance the rest of the way, but the Hornets held the Mountaineers from collecting an equalizer before the head coaches agreed to end the game with just over 18 minutes to play; Sunday's start time was about 14 and a half hours after the Mountaineers finished their Saturday night game against Johnson State College.

Hornet freshman goalie Johanna Anderson (Manchester, New Hampshire) took the win (1-1) with one save on the day while Mascari suffered the loss (0-2), turning away nine Lyndon shots and only allowing the one goal against.

The Mountaineers (0-2) return to SVC for their home opener with Morrisville State College on Wednesday, scheduled for 4 p.m. Lyndon (1-1) visits Mount Holyoke College Thursday for a 6 p.m. kickoff.
