BENNINGTON, Vt. — The National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) announced on Monday the recipients for its 2013-14 Team Academic Award with the Southern Vermont College women's soccer team making its way onto the list.
Squads that posted cumulative grade point averages of 3.0 and above following the 2014 spring semester were eligible to collect the honor. The 2013-14 SVC crew totaled a 3.49 GPA to receive the laurel for the program's third straight year.
"I'm extremely proud of the academic accomplishments of this team," commented fourth year SVC head coach Michael Zauzig, "and I love [the players'] commitment to their grades and classes. For the third straight year, these ladies have shown that you can have the best of both worlds as strong student-athletes."
A total of 861 soccer teams earned the award for last year's academic successes with 188 schools seeing both their men's and women's teams do so. Southern Vermont was among the 582 women's teams to meet the qualifications while 279 men's teams were awarded.
