BENNINGTON, Vt. – The New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) has named Southern Vermont College sophomore goalkeeper Katie Raymond (Bristol, Conn.) as the Women's Soccer Player of the Week for the week ending September 22, 2013.
Raymond played 200 minutes in goal for the Mountaineers across two matches, posting a 1.35 goals against average in that time. She recorded her first shutout of the season after stopping 13 New England College shots in a 0-0 double-overtime draw including a game-saving kick save in the second extra session. She then turned away 12 attempts at Lesley University Saturday afternoon in a 3-0 loss to the Lynx. Raymond boasted an 89.3 save percentage for the week.
"I'm extremely proud of Katie," commented third-year head coach Michael Zauzig. "It's been a tough transition for her from the field to goalie, but she continues to work hard and has been a tremendous asset to us." Raymond, traditionally a defender, took on minutes in goal towards the end of the 2012 season and has since taken over the starter role for Zauzig.
The sophomore keeper and the Mountaineers turn to a Wednesday non-conference tilt as they visit SUNY Cobleskill for a 4 p.m. match, and then they return to NECC action on Saturday when they welcome Daniel Webster College for a 1 p.m. showdown during the College's Homecoming Weekend.
