Jocelyn Ortega Named NECC Women's Soccer Player of the Week (9/17/12)

BENNINGTON, Vt. – Southern Vermont women's soccer junior midfielder Jocelyn Ortega (Chula Vista, Calif.) has been selected the New England Collegiate Conference Player of the Week for the week ending September 16, 2012.

Ortega helped the Mountaineers to two wins last week, scoring two goals and assisting on another in the process.  Her midfield presence also led to the Mountaineers controlling the ball for a majority of the two contests, resulting in only giving up two goals.

The junior transfer had two goals and an assist in Tuesday's 6-0 win over SUNY Cobleskill, including a 30 yard blast that found the upper right corner of the goal frame.  She then played tough minutes in the Mountaineers' 2-1 overtime win at Wells College.

Ortega currently leads the NECC with four assists.  She is second in overall points with 14, and tied for second in goals scored with five; she is behind teammate Kaitlyn Forant (Hardwick, Vt.), who was selected as this week's NECC Rookie of the Week, the second time this year she has garnered the accolade.  Forant ranks with nine goals and 18 overall points.

Ortega transferred to Southern Vermont from San Diego Mesa College where she played for two years.  She and the Mountaineers next see action at 7 p.m. on Wednesday when they travel to New England College.
