Women's Soccer Honored with 2011-12 Team Academic Award

BENNINGTON, Vt. – The student-athletes of the 2011-12 Southern Vermont College women’s soccer were awarded the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Team Academic Award after final grade point averages were cumulated.

The NSCAA annually recognizes college and high school soccer programs that have excelled in the classroom, in addition to their work on the pitch.

512 women’s college soccer teams across all three divisions posted a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher, thereby earning the NSCAA Team Academic Award for the 2011-12 academic year.  The Mountaineers’ averaged a 3.30.  227 men’s college teams also received the award.

The 2011-12 Mountaineer squad was the first headed by Coach Michael Zauzig.  “I have high expectations for the student-athletes both in the academic and athletic settings,” commented Zauzig.  “It is great to see the team take pride in their grades, and I’m proud of them for their commitment to academic success.”

Founded in 1941 and based in Kansas City, Kan., the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) is a non-profit organization with a mission to educate coaches, encourage excellence and serve the soccer community.

The NSCAA is the world’s largest soccer coaches’ organization with members at every level of the game. The membership is primarily made up of coaches, but also includes administrators, referees and others in the soccer industry. The NSCAA provides its members ways to enhance the game of soccer by providing a national education program, interaction and networking opportunities, and membership benefits.
