Kaitlyn Forant Named NECC Women's Soccer Rookie of the Week (9/17/12)

BENNINGTON, Vt. – Southern Vermont College women’s soccer junior forward Kaitlyn Forant (Hardwick, Vt.) has been selected as the New England Collegiate Conference Rookie of the Week for the week ending September 16, 2012.  This is the second Rookie of the Week honor for Forant this year.

For the week, Forant had three goals in two Mountaineer wins.  She currently leads the conference with nine, as well as overall points with 18.  Second to her in points is teammate Jocelyn Ortega (Chula Vista, Calif.), this week’s NECC Player of the Week, with 14.

Forant scored two goals in a 6-0 win over SUNY Cobleskill on Tuesday the 11th, and then added her third for the week in a 2-1 win at Wells College on Sunday.  She scored in the early going against Wells to put SVC ahead 1-0.

The junior transfer is in her first collegiate season after taking two years off while a student at the University of Vermont, making her eligible for conference rookie accolades.  She was unable to play her senior season at Hazen Union High School due to a broken leg.

Forant and the Mountaineers return to play on Wednesday in a 7 p.m. start at New England College.
