Women's Soccer Tops SUNY Cobleskill, 6-0

BENNINGTON, Vt. – The Southern Vermont College women's soccer team improved to 4-1 on Tuesday with a 6-0 win over SUNY Cobleskill (1-4-1).

Juniors Kaitlyn Forant (Hardwick, Vt.) and Jocelyn Ortega (Chula Vista, Calif.) each had two goals on the day.  Ortega also added an assist to her season total.

Evident early in the going was the return of Mountaineer senior captain Shawnee Webster (Hoosick, N.Y.) who saw her first action of 2012 after having to sit out the first four games due to an ankle injury.  Her productivity in the offensive end of the field led to a few SVC shots as they set the tone and starting applying pressure after a shaky start.  In the 9th minute, Forant took a shot which bounced off the post and found Webster who was able to bury one off her left foot for a 1-0 lead.

"It was amazing to be back out on that field," said Webster.  "It's great to watch the girls from the sideline, but it's even better to be out on the field with them and play."  Forant added her first of the day in the 19th to go up 2-0.  In the 28th minute, Ortega found Aleena Molosh (Twp of Washington, N.J.) for her second goal on the season.

Four minutes later, Jess Magee (Sound Beach, N.Y.) passed the ball across the field to Ortega who took a shot from about 30 yards out, finding the upper right corner of the goal.  Ortega finished another in the 38th to put the Mountaineers up 5-0 at the break.  Early on in the second half, Forant finished on her second goal for her eighth of the year, a number which leads the conference.  Forant also leads the NECC in points (16) with Ortega right behind her (14).

Fighting Tigers' goalkeeper Amanda Wallace (Phoenix, N.Y.) led the day with five saves, all coming in the first half.

"We started finding feet and doing what we had discussed prior to the game," said Mountaineer coach Michael Zauzig.  "It's always great when you can come back from a loss with a quality win.  We found our energy quickly and it led to a bunch of success on the day."

SVC also saw Danielle Celotto (Ledyard, Conn.) return for the first time since 2010 after being redshirted with an injury last season and having to sit out the early going this year with illness.  "It was good to be back and contribute to the team's victory," said the junior captain.  "We played very well together; the team is improving daily and making strides towards our ultimate goal."

The Mountaineers return to action at Wells College at 1:00 on Sunday, while the Fighting Tigers set their sights on their trip Cazenovia for a 1:00 start on Saturday.
