Women's Soccer Kicks Off Strong with 5-0 Win at Anna Maria

BENNINGTON, Vt. – The Mountaineer's women's soccer team started the 2012 season on the right foot on Saturday afternoon with a 5-0 win at Anna Maria College.

SVC junior Erin Student (Clifton Park, N.Y.) put the team on the board 12 minutes into the game and they never looked back.  Continuing to apply pressure throughout the first half, junior Kaitlyn Forant (Hardwick, Vt.) put three in the back of the net.  Due to a slight injury in the second half, she was able to play just under 30 minutes on the day.

The defense held strong as well, only allowing two AMCAT shots on goal.  Anna Maria's freshman Sarah Benvenuti (Southbridge, Mass.) had six saves in the loss.  The final goal of the game came off an own-goal, resulting from an SVC corner kick.

Second-year coach Michael Zauzig said of his Mountaineers, "I'm thrilled with the game and the great start to our season, but it's only one game.  We need to continue to work hard throughout the season and build upon the progress we made during preseason and even over the course of today's match."  SVC hosts Pine Manor College Sunday in its home-opener at 12:30 p.m.  Anna Maria's next game comes Tuesday when they welcome Wheelock College.
