COBLESKILL, NY- The Southern Vermont College Women's Soccer team fell to host SUNY Cobleskill Wednesday afternoon 3-0. It was the home opener for the Fighting Tigers who won their second straight match Wednesday. The visiting Mountaineers dropped to 1-3 with the loss as the Tigers improve to 2-3.
After forty minutes of 0-0 play the Tigers finally broke through when Nicole Rubino teamed up with Kaitlyn Enright for a give and go that beat Mountaineer keeper Catrina Cecchini. Two minutes into the second half Cobleskill struck again, when Erica Faulkner finished home a Emily Lesperance corner kick. Lesperance put the final touches on the game with two minutes remaining when she scored on a penalty kick.
Cecchini kept the Mountaineers in the game with 19 saves in the match. Shawnee Webster, Chelsea Malone, and Connor Crawford led the SVC offense with two shots on goal each.
The Mountaineers will begin New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) play Saturday at 2:30PM when they host Regis College.
