Hawks Edge SVC Women’s Soccer 2-0

BENNINGTON, Vt. – The Southern Vermont College women's soccer team fell Tuesday, October 19, 2-0 to New England Collegiate Conference foe the Becker College Hawks on Everett Field. Sophomores Caroline Plunkett and Justine LeBlanc led the Hawks with a goal each in the second half.

The Mountaineer (0-13, 0-6 NECC) defense held the Hawks at bay for the first half behind the efforts of sophomore defender Danielle Celotto. Becker (5-10, 3-3 NECC) got on the board in the 48th minute of play when LeBlanc crossed to Plunkett who found a wide open left side of the frame. The Mountaineers had several opportunities to score but could not evade the Becker defense. LeBlanc finished off the Hawks offense for the day when she received a nice cross from freshman Katie Smith to make it 2-0 with 80:55 on the clock.

SVC freshman keeper Catrina Cecchini nabbed 13 saves in the loss, while senior Alena Phongsa and freshman Boucher combined for a shutout victory for Becker. Boucher had two saves as she worked the entire second period.

SVC is back in action Saturday, October 23rd, when it travels to Newbury College for NECC action.
