BENNINGTON, Vt. — The New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) announced Sunday its first batch of weekly awards for the 2015 women's lacrosse season with Southern Vermont College sophomore Melodie Orrell (Gloucester, Massachusetts) picking up the Player of the Week honor after the team's first-ever match.

Orrell had a great first game for the Mountaineers, notching a pair of contest-highs in a loss to a solid Regis squad. The sophomore scored three goals to tie the most registered by any player in Saturday's game and scooped up a match-best nine ground balls. She also tallied three draw controls and forced three turnovers on the day.

The sophomore and the Mountaineers are off this week, resuming the schedule next Tuesday, March 24 with their home opener against Daniel Webster College, a 3:30 p.m. NECC tilt.
