Colby-Sawyer Downs Women's Lacrosse 17-5 in Non-League Tilt

NEW LONDON, N.H. — The Southern Vermont College women's lacrosse team lost on the road Wednesday afternoon, falling 17-5 to Colby-Sawyer College in non-conference action at Vietch Turf Field.

Each team tallied five goals in the second half, but a strong first period by the Chargers gave the hosts a big enough cushion for the win (5-5).

The Mountaineers fared well on the clear, going a season-best 10-13 on attempts while cashing in on three of five free-position shots. The SVC defense also caused a season-best six turnovers in the effort. Southern Vermont (1-4) is next set to hold its first-ever home match, welcoming Rivier University to Everett Field on Saturday for a 3:30 p.m. non-league tilt.

SVC sophomore Melodie Orrell (Gloucester, Mass.) registered a hat-trick to total 15 goals on the season, adding a game-high six ground balls to her line. Freshman Taylor Brewer (Bennington, Vt.) and sophomore Emily Lesure (Cheshire, Mass.) each tallied their sixth goals of the season with Brewer also scooping up two ground balls and causing a pair of turnovers. Sophomore Lauren Nesshoever (Rutland, Vt.) and freshman Maja Stanisic (Burlington, Vt.) chipped in with a caused turnover and two ground balls apiece.

Charger goalkeeper Meghan Castellano (Wallingford, Conn.) picked up the win in net (5-5) while Mountaineer freshman Kelsey Carrera (Queensbury, N.Y.) stopped 11 CSC shots in the loss (1-4).
