Becker Scores 19-4 Decision Over Women's Lacrosse

LEICESTER, Mass. — Southern Vermont College lost 19-4 Saturday afternoon at Becker College in New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) women's lacrosse action at Alumni Field.

Becker improves to 6-4 on the year and 3-1 in NECC play while SVC drops to 1-3, 1-2 against the league.

Mountaineer sophomores Melodie Orrell (Gloucester, Mass.) and Emily Lesure (Cheshire, Mass.) each tallied a pair of goals in the effort while freshman Taylor Brewer (Bennington, Vt.) added an assist. Orrell scooped up a game-high eight ground balls, and Lesure tied the game-best of five draw controls.

Hawk goaltender Karena Prescott (New Bedford, Mass.) made five saves as she collected the win (6-2), and SVC freshman keeper Kelsey Carrera (Queensbury, N.Y.) stopped a season-best 14 shots in the loss (1-3).

Becker went up 2-0 in the early going as the Hawks never trailed all day. Orrell's first tally cut the deficit to one, but BC then put in nine unanswered goals to take a comfortable lead. Lesure finished off the half with a pair of scores in the final 1:09 of play, her fourth and fifth of the season, sending the match to the intermission with Becker holding an 11-3 lead.

The hosts' offense continued after the break, gaining more separation with the first three points of the second period. Orrell was able to take a Brewer pass and bury it in the back of the net for her team-leading 12th goal of the year, but it wouldn't be enough for Southern Vermont as the Hawks padded their cushion on the way to the 19-4 victory.

SVC is next at Colby-Sawyer College on Wednesday for a 3 p.m. non-conference contest.
