BENNINGTON, Vt. — For the second straight week, the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Women's Basketball Player of the Week hails from Southern Vermont College as the league announced on Monday that SVC senior captain Amber Flagg (Windsor, Conn.) was selected to receive the award for the period ending November 22, 2015.
Flagg had a strong weekend at the Curry College Tip-off Tournament, averaging 20.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 5.5 steals per game. She helped SVC go 1-1, the Mountaineers notching their first 2-1 season start since 2008-09 and first win on Curry's court in nine all-time games.
The senior captain registered game-high in points during each of the weekend's contests, her 17 against Curry on Saturday putting her up to 1,403 for her career; that made her just the sixth Mountaineer from either basketball program to surpass the 1,400 point mark and put her 89 points away from tying the women's team's all-time scoring record. She also became SVC's solo all-time steals leader on Saturday, her six against the Colonels giving her 193 for her career.
This is the third time in her career that Flagg has been honored with the Conference's top weekly laurel after she picked it up twice last year. It is also the second consecutive NECC Player of the Week accolade for SVC as senior Turquoia Johnson (Rockville, Md.) was awarded with it last week.
Flagg and the Mountaineers are off until next Monday, November 30 when they head to The Sage Colleges for a 7 p.m. start, their final non-conference contest before beginning the NECC schedule.
