Flagg Takes 2nd NECC Women's Hoops Player of the Week Honor

BENNINGTON, Vt. — The New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) announced on Monday its first batch of weekly awards for 2015 with Southern Vermont College junior captain Amber Flagg (Windsor, Connecticut) being named the Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the period ending January 11, 2015.

This is the second time this season that Flagg has collected the top league award after picking it up for the first time in her career on December 8, 2014. She had a great start to 2015, helping her team go 2-1 with both wins being conference games last week. She notched her 1,000th career point on January 3 in the Mountaineers' final non-conference contest, becoming only the third SVC women's player to reach the career milestone; she did so in just 59 collegiate games, averaging 17.1 per game since being a freshman.

Flagg then dropped game-highs of 23 and 34 points against Lesley and Mitchell, respectively, to help Southern Vermont start the NECC schedule with a 4-0 mark. The junior captain shot 10-13 (77 percent) against the Lynx on Tuesday from the floor, going 3-4 on attempts from beyond the arc. She then played all 45 minutes in a Saturday overtime victory at Mitchell, being just one point shy of her career-best in points with 34, connecting on 16-of-17 shots from the free throw line. She also added 10 rebounds for her first double-double of the season.

In the three games since New Year's, Flagg averaged 23.3 points, 6.3 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 2.3 steals per game. She shot 55.6 percent from the floor (20-36) and carried an 88.9 percent clip from the charity stripe (24-27).

Flagg and the Mountaineers look to keep their conference unbeaten streak going this week with three NECC tilts, the first being a 5 p.m. road contest at Newbury College on Tuesday.
