Women's Basketball Drops Season Opener 76-37 at Curry

MILTON, Mass. – The Southern Vermont College women's basketball team dropped its season opener 76-37 in the opening round of the Curry College Tip-off Tournament, losing to the hosting Colonels Friday night.

Curry opened the game on a 9-0 run, starting with a layup by junior Jeanette Fallon (Nashua, N.H.) and was capped off with a three-pointer by freshman Alyssa Keeney (Coventry, Conn.). The Colonels extended their lead to 31 (51-20) heading into the break. Curry took its biggest lead of the game with 6:55 left in the game after junior Kylie Beltz (Pequot Lakes, Minn.) converted a layup.

The Mountaineers were led by sophomore Amber Flagg (Windsor, Conn.) who scored a team-best 11 points while freshman Sarah McDonald (Cohoes, N.Y.) had 10 points and six rebounds.

Fallon led the Colonels with a game-high 14 points and also added six boards. Beltz contributed 13 points, eight rebounds and six assists. Junior Christina Deiorio (Stoughton, Mass.) and Keeney added 11 and 10 points, respectively.

The Mountaineers (0-1) now turn to Saturday's consolation game against St. John Fisher College being played at 1 p.m. at Curry. The Colonels (1-0) will take on St. Joseph's College of Maine in the championship match at 3 p.m. St. Joseph's defeated St. John Fisher 54-42 earlier Friday evening.
