BENNINGTON, Vt. – The New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) announced Monday that Southern Vermont College freshman Kala MacKenzie (Fair Haven, Vt.) is the Women’s Basketball Rookie of the Week for the week ending January 6, 2013.

                MacKenzie recorded double-doubles in each Mountaineer game this week, making it three straight on the season for the freshman forward. In the two games, she shot 54.2% from the field, going 7-9 against a strong Pine Manor team. She also contributed defensively with 3.5 blocks per game.

                She currently ranks third in the NECC for rebounds with 8.9 per game and is fifth in field goal percentage shooting 44.6%.

                MacKenzie and the Mountaineers return to NECC action on Tuesday when they visit Daniel Webster College for a 6 p.m. tilt.
