Amber Flagg Grabs 3rd NECC Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week Honor

BENNINGTON, Vt. – Southern Vermont College freshman captain Amber Flagg (Windsor, Conn.) has been named the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Women’s Basketball Rookie of the Week for the week ending January 13th. This is the third week for which the point guard has received the honor.

Flagg had two-straight 20-point games and added a game-high 17 in a win at Mitchell College to average 19 points in three games this week for the Mountaineers. The freshman captain shot 86.2 percent from the free throw line and a stellar 42.1 percent from 3-point range.

She currently ranks third in the conference with 16.8 points per game, the most for any freshman in the NECC. She is also second in the conference with a free throw percentage of 83.3.

“Amber continues to perform above my expectations,” commented head coach Mike Quinn.  “I don’t see any reason why that growth will not continue because of how hard she works.”

Flagg and the Mountaineers look to win their second-straight game with a 4 p.m. tip Tuesday at home against NECC opponent Lesley University.
