BENNINGTON, Vt. – The Mountaineers were done by three points with less than 30 seconds to play but could not overcome the deficit, losing its final regular season game to Newbury, 87-82. With the loss the Mountaineers fall to 7-18 overall and 5-11 in the NECC. The Nighthawks improve to 11-14 overall and 9-7 in the NECC.
Ashley Monteiro scored an outstanding 30 points for the Nighthawks going 10-19 from behind the arc. Monteiro helped the Nighthawks shoot an overall 41.2% from the floor. Morganna Machado and Shayla White scored 20 and 14 points for Newbury.
Alyssa Davis had an incredible night for the Mountaineers leading the team with 24 points, going an impressive 5-8 from behind the arc. Kiara Bates, Joa Claircius and Abby Riedel scored 16, 15 and 13 points for SVC.
Jasmine Bishop and Catherine O'Connell had 12 and 11 rebounds each for the Nighthawks while Christie Henry had eight boards for the Mountaineers.
SVC finished with seven wins, the most the program has had since 1998-1999 season.
The Mountaineers honored Tish Hall and Kiarra Bates on Senior Day during halftime.
