Tough Loss for Women’s Basketball

BENNINGTON, Vt. – Southern Vermont suffered a tough defeat to NECC opponent Becker, 61-58. SVC falls to 7-17 overall and 5-10 in the NECC. Becker improves to 9-14 overall and 7-8 in conference play.

With 2:20 remaining in the game, SVC was down 59-51. The Mountaineers then went on a 7-0, bringing the score to 59-58 with 30 seconds remaining in the game. Becker's Haley Ooms then completed two free throw shots to bring the lead to three points with 16 seconds remaining. SVC brought the ball down the full court and ran the clock down to three seconds when Rita Hall missed a three-pointer to end the game.

Becker had three players score in double digits, Heidi Miller leading the way with a double-double, recording 21 points and 15 rebounds. Chelsea Joubert had 12 points while Tatiana Mojica had 10 points. Ooms also dished out nine assists in the win.

The Mountaineers also had three players score in double digits with Hall out front scoring 13 points. Claircius and Kourtney Hewitt each scored 12 points. Abby Riedel grabbed 14 rebounds for SVC.

Becker and SVC's postseason hopes come down to what happens on Saturday. SVC must win on Saturday against Newbury.

The Mountaineers will be honoring seniors Tish Hall and Kiara Bates before the game. Game time is at 3:00 p.m.
