Women’s Basketball Falls to Elms College

CHICOPEE, Ma. – Fourth place Elms College defeated sixth place Southern Vermont Women's Basketball, 84-68. Joa Claircius shined for the Mountaineers scoring 28 points total going 3-5 from behind the arc.

SVC falls to 6-14 overall and 4-8 in the NECC while Elms improves to 8-13 overall and 6-6 in the NECC.

The Mountaineers were playing basket for basket with the Blazers until six minutes remaining in the first half. Elms then went on a 16-3 run to end the first half. The 15 point lead was insurmountable for the Mountaineers in the second half.

Abby Riedel had 11 points for the Mountaineers while blocking five shots. Alyssa Davis had a strong game with nine points, six rebounds and four assists.

The Blazers highlighted four players scoring double digits. Erika Murphy led the way with 23 points while Katie Condon, Nicolette Martin and Ellen Donohue added 16, 14 and 11 points respectively. Murphy added an impressive 19 boards while Martin grabbed 11 rebounds.

The Mountaineers return to action on the road Thursday, February 8th against Bay Path College. Tip-off is scheduled for 8:00 p.m.
