BENNINGTON, Vt. – Southern Vermont College women's basketball came away with its second straight win defeating Elms College, 61-52. SVC improved to 4-11 (2-6 NECC), while the Blazers dropped to 6-10 (4-3 NECC).
The back-to-back wins for the Mountaineers marks the first time it has been achieved since the 2008-2009 season.
The Mountaineers struggled in the first half shooting 25.6% from the field. Elms also shot poorly with a 29.4% from the floor. At the end of the first half the score was in the Blazers favor, 26-21.
SVC improved greatly in the second half shooting 39.5% (15-38) from the field, while Elms dropped to 23.3%.
Leading the way for the Mountaineers was Joa Claircius with 17 points. Claircius also added eight rebounds and four steals. Kourtney Hewitt led the team on the boards with 10 while adding 12 points. Alyssa Davis and Kiara Bates also added 10 points each for the Mountaineers.
Katie Condon led the Blazers with 11 points and 13 rebounds. Emily Boucher and Taylor Darby also added 10 points each.
SVC is back in action on Thursday, January 27th, when it hosts NECC opponent Bay Path College. The tip-off is slated for 6:00 p.m.
