Norwich Unhinges SVC Women’s Basketball, 81-59

BENNINGTON, Vt. – Junior guard Joa Claircius' 20 points was not enough to overcome 28 team turnovers as the Southern Vermont College women's basketball team fell to Norwich University 81-59 in the MAC on Thursday night. The Mountaineers fall to 2-5, while the Cadets improved to 5-3.

The Mountaineers got down early and went to the break with a 12 point deficit (34-22). Junior guard Alyssa Davis paced SVC in the first half with eight points on 3-of-6 shooting. The Cadets capitalized on Mountaineer mistakes as it converted 25 points off of SVC turnovers. Neither team shot exceptionally well as the Mountaineers finished with 31.3% from the field to Norwich's 38.2%.

Claircius led the way in the second half as she tallied 17 of her team-high 20 points. The Mountaineers out-rebounded the Cadets 50-48 with much help from freshman forward Kourtney Hewitt who pulled down 11 boards. Hewitt also chipped in nine points.
Leading the way for Norwich was guard Karissa Doyon who had 25 points and seven steals.
The Mountaineers wrap up the first part of the season when it travels to Mitchell College foe an NECC showdown on Saturday, December 11th. The game is slated for a 1:00 p.m. tip-off.
