Levy Leads NEC Women’s Basketball Past Southern Vermont

HENNIKER, N.H. – New England College women's basketball guard Kate Levy scored a game-high 24 points leading the Pilgrims past the visiting Southern Vermont College Mountaineers 89-59 Tuesday evening in Henniker.

With the win the Pilgrims improve to 3-4 overall, while the loss drops the Mountaineers to 1-2 on the season.

NEC would jump out to the early 16-6 lead and use a 8-0 run to go up 20 points midway through the opening half. Southern Vermont would get within 14 points but the Pilgrims would close out the half outscoring the Mountaineers 6-2 to head into halftime up 48-28.

The Pilgrim offense would continue to control much of the tempo in the second half of play grabbing their largest lead of the game up 78-41 with 8:08 remaining in regulation. The Mountaineers would get within 29 points late but the Pilgrims would finish the second half shooting 35% from three-point range capturing the 89-59 victory.

NEC's Jenna Ledy finished with 16 points and 10 rebounds, while Rachel Williams grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds to go along with her 10 points and five assists. Jessie Ledy chipped in 14 points for the Pilgrims.

Leading the way for Southern Vermont College was Kourtney Hewitt who finished with 10 points and a team-best seven rebounds. Rita Hall chipped in a team-high 14 points and Dayna Carpenter was the only other Mountaineer in double-figures finishing with 12 points.

NEC returns to action on Thursday, Dec. 2 when they travel to take on Albertus Magnus. Southern Vermont hits the court this Friday, Dec. 3 when they travel to take part in the Dr. Betty Shabazz Tournament.
