BENNINGTON, Vt. - The Southern Vermont College women's basketball team hosted the Bard College Raptors in non-conference action and were tied at 52 with 53 seconds left on the clock when foul trouble caught up with the Mountaineers leading to their ultimate demise with a 57-52 loss Tuesday night. SVC was led by junior forward Rachel Pannell who finished with a double-double posting 14 points and 12 rebounds.
After a slow start for both teams Bard was up by one at the half 22-21. The Mountaineers fought for the lead in the second half tying it up four time's altogether and the difference never being more than four either way.
The Raptors were led by junior forward Latiqua Williams who had a double-double of 19 points and 17 rebounds. Also scoring 19 was sophomore guard Caitlin Dullea who was 3-for-3 from behind the arc. Sophomore guard Angelica Glover also contributed 10 points to round out Bard's offense.
Mountaineers sophomore guard Joa Claircius and freshman forward Christie Henry each posted nine points in the close contest. While sophomore guard, captain, Alyssa Davis chipped in seven points to give SVC a fairly balanced offensive attack.
Southern Vermont was outrebounded by one (50-49) and had one more turnover than Bard (17-16).
The loss gives the Mountaineers a 2-14 overall record, while the Raptors improved to 3-12.
The Mountaineers are back in action Thursday, January 28th, when it hosts Wheelock College for a 7:00 p.m. tip-off.
