BENNINGTON, Vt. – The Southern Vermont College women’s basketball team fought hard but came short losing to the visiting New England Collegiate Conference Nighthawks of Newbury College 65-54 Saturday afternoon. It was senior day at SVC and forward Rachel Pannell had a double-double with a team-high 16 points and pulled down 11 rebounds in her final game on the Field House court. Sophomore guard Morganna Machado led Newbury with a game-high 19 points.

The Hawks pick up their first win of the year to improve to 1-9 (1-0 NECC) the Mountaineers drop to 1-8 (0-2 NECC).
