BENNINGTON, Vt. - Southern Vermont College women's basketball
freshman guard Joa Claircius of Clermont, Fla. garnered the New
England Collegiate Conference "Rookie of the Week" award for the
last week of regular season play.
"I'm honored that I was chosen as Rookie of the Week," said
Claircius. "I couldn't have done it without my coaches and my
teammates. However, I'd trade all these awards just to have made
the playoffs."
Claircius posted solid numbers as she averaged 21.7 points, 5.0
rebounds and 3.7 steals per game helping the Mountaineers to a 1-2
final conference week. She scored 45% of Southern Vermont's points
in a 30-point effort against Wheelock, guiding her team to a 66-64
victory.
"Joa had a great week," said Head Coach Ben Kozik. "This was the
third time this season she put up 30-plus points. For a freshman,
that's phenomenal."
Over the three-game span, Claircius shot 37% (26-for-71) from the
field, 29% (4-for-14) from downtown and 75% (9-for-12) from the
charity stripe.
Claircius led the young Mountaineer squad to a 6-19 overall and
4-12 in the NECC.
