SVC Ladies Come Up Just Short in AD3I Tournament

Bennington, VT-The Southern Vermont College women's basketball team fell 73-66 to Saint Elizabeth's College in an Association of Division III Independents Women's Basketball Tournament semi-final game played in Poultney on the campus of Green Mountain College.

Junior forward Markeisha Mullen (Baltimore, MD/Walbrook) tallied a game-high 28 points and 15 rebounds. She added five steals and three assists. Freshman guard Julia Fagan (New Britain, CT/New Britain) registered 25 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists.

SVC led 10-5 in the early stages, but St. Elizabeth's went on a 38-11 run to close the half to lead 43-22. The ladies continued to fight and cut the lead to five with :30 seconds left. Saint Elizabeth's held firm and made four free throws down the stretch to hang on for the final.

"I am so proud of our ladies and the never quit attitude they possess," said head women's basketball coach Benjamin Kozik. "We have some work to do in the off season and then I expect our squad to come back and make the SVC faithful proud next year."
