Mullen Selected as AD3I Student-Athlete of the Month

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Forward Markeisha Mullen of Southern Vermont College and was named as the recipient of the Association of Division III Independents Female Student-Athlete of the Month award for February. 

Mullen, a junior psychology major from Baltimore, MD, averaged a double-double during the month, scoring 21.6 points per game while grabbing 14.6 rebounds in five contests.  Mullen, who led her team to a spot in the AD3I Northeast Regional Basketball Championship, also recorded 3.2 assists and 3.8 steals per contest.  Her game-highs came against AD3I foe Mitchell College, where she scored 32 points and pulled down 26 rebounds, the fifth-highest single-game Division III total this season.  Mullen also was  honored for a second time as the AD3I player of the week. 

"Markeisha had an excellent month of basketball," said head women's basketball coach Benjamin Kozik. "We are thrilled to return her for another season and also to have all but one of our letterwinners back next year."

The Association of Division III Independents consists of 21 Division III independent institutions that have joined together to recognize student-athletes at independent institutions, and to provide exempted postseason championship competition in nine sports in 2007-08.  The Association recognizes outstanding athletic achievements of its student-athletes on a weekly, monthly and annual basis.  The Association provides statistical services for its members in seven sports.  In addition, it also will announce All-Independent teams at the conclusion of nine sports this year. 

All competing student-athletes from the Association's 21 members were eligible for the award.  Each school was allowed to nominate its top performing male and female student-athletes from February.  The award recipients were selected after a vote of the Association's Student-Athlete Recognition Committee.
