Johnson Tabbed First NECC Softball Rookie of the Week Winner

MARSHFIELD, Mass. – Southern Vermont College freshman Brandi Johnson (Philmont, N.Y.) has been named the first New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Softball Rookie of the Week for the 2019 season—announced by the league on Monday for the period encapsulating all games played through March 3.

Johnson started the year well as she helped SVC sweep a Friday doubleheader against Northern Vermont University-Lyndon. She went 5-7 at the dish with a pair of walks, and she tallied two doubles, six runs scored, two RBI's, and a stolen base. The freshman shortstop posted a slugging percentage of 1.000 with an on-base mark of .778.

The shortstop went 3-3 with a walk, two doubles, three runs scored, and two runs batted in during the team’s first game of the year. Johnson was then 2-4 with a walk and three runs scored in SVC’s second win of the day.

Johnson and the Mountaineers are back in action on Monday, March 18 with their first two of eight games to be played in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
