ATTLEBORO, Mass. – Southern Vermont College collected its second-ever spot in the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) postseason with the Mountaineers being the eighth seed in the 2017 playoff bracket as announced by the league on Sunday.

Southern Vermont is back in the Conference's postseason tournament for the first time since 2014. SVC (4-14 NECC) will travel to take on No. 1 Newbury College (16-2 NECC) Tuesday night at 7 p.m. in a single-elimination, first-round matchup at Regis College.

"This is a huge accomplishment for our team to make it to the playoffs this year," said first-year SVC head coach Paige Gage. "This has been our goal since day one, and reaching that goal in only my first year here is a great feeling; it's just where I wanted to be with this team.

"Taking the games inning-by-inning, pitch-by-pitch, and worrying about what we need to do has been a huge factor in getting the wins we needed this year," Gage continued. "We just have to keep plugging away and getting runs across the board to keep us going and get to Friday."

With a win Tuesday, Southern Vermont will play in the league's double-elimination tournament which starts Friday and is to be played at the highest remaining seed after the first-round contests.

"Getting to the league playoffs is big for from such a young team," Gage added. "It's awesome for them to experience the postseason together because it will help the team know what it will take for them to make another playoff run together in the upcoming years."
