LYNN, Mass. – The Softball team traveled to Fisher College for a doubleheader but only played five innings in game 1 before the umpires ruled the field unsafe to play on. SVC was defeated by Fisher 6-4 on a muddy field. Fisher College improved to 1-13 while SVC fell to 0-6.
The Mountaineers started the top of the first inning with Alyssa Davis reaching first on a walk. Davis then stole second and third before scoring on a passed ball. It marked the second time this season that SVC led an inning.
Fisher was able to score four more runs before the Mountaineers added another run. Tiarra Hall scored the next run for SVC in the top of the fourth inning on a groundout by Katelyn Boyd. In the bottom of the inning Fisher added two more runs to take the lead to 6-2.
SVC started the top of the fifth inning with a leadoff single by Brittany Stark to the right side. Tanjot Dhaliwal then struck out looking before Davis came up and belted a triple to center field. Stark scored on the hit. Davis then scored on a groundout by Jessica Eldridge.
The Mountaineers comeback fell short when the umpires called the game to an end in the middle of the fifth inning. The field was muddy and considered unsafe.
Davis finished the day going 1-1, scoring two runs, two walks and stealing four bases. Stark had two hits in her season debut with SVC while scoring a run.
SVC returns to action on Tuesday, March 29th when they host Green Mountain College at Willow Field. The first game of the doubleheader starts at 3:00 p.m.
