BENNINGTON, Vt. – After the team's first stint of regular season competition, Southern Vermont College junior captain Marc Brandmeyer (Bennington, Vt.) was named by Mountaineer head coach Kathleen Newton '04 as the SVC Athlete of the Week for the period ending March 26, 2017.

Brandmeyer had a strong start to the year at Saturday's Bridgewater State University Bears Invitational as he charted a pair of solid marks in SVC's first competition of the season. He tallied a 9:56.48 to win the men's 3000 meter steeplechase—that being good enough for him to already qualify for the Division III New England Regional Championship by coming well under the required time of 10:10.00.

"He accomplished this without having any practice going over the barriers," Newton commented. "Marc is working hard at practice; he is determined and is focused on having a great outdoor track season."

The junior also partook in the men's 800 meter race—placing 10th overall with a 2:09.01. That was just over eight seconds off of his team record for the distance

Brandmeyer and the Mountaineers continue the season this upcoming Saturday at Fitchburg State University's Jim Sheehan Memorial.
