WESTON, Mass. – The Southern Vermont College outdoor track & field team concluded its 2017 regular season schedule on Sunday at Regis College's Pride Invitational, and the Mountaineers made the most of it by posting seven new school records while adding another five personal bests.

For the second-straight week, SVC's men's and women's 5000 meter marks were broken as Bennington College junior Isabella Poulos (Milwaukee, Wis.) and Southern Vermont senior Corey Barcomb (Burlington, Vt.) both topped their previous program records. Poulos took 12.96 seconds off her old best in the women's race with a 20:02.70, and Barcomb knocked 22.29 seconds off of his prior record with a time of 17:46.10 on the men's side.

SVC registered its first-ever team mark in a women's 4x400 meter relay as Poulos, seniors Jordan Welch (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) and Shelby Whitman (Bennington, Vt.), and sophomore Morgan Arleth (Berlin, Vt.) combined to complete the race with a time of 4:48.33.

The Mountaineers also broke their previous 4x400 meter relay record on the men's side with junior Marc Brandmeyer (Bennington, Vt.), senior Aden Fischer (Arlington, Vt.), sophomore Isaiah Backels (Derry, N.H.), and freshman Davante Smith (Ellenville, N.Y.) teaming up to finish at 3:42.29; that was 4.84 seconds faster than any four SVC runners had ever charted in the relay.

Welch became the first-ever Mountaineer from either the women's or men's side to compete in a hurdle event—running the women's 400 meter race in a time of 1:16.35. Brandmeyer took 4.99 seconds off his old school record in the men's 1500 meter run to come in at 4:04.48, and freshman thrower Luke Freehoff (Mansfield, Mass.) registered a new school record in the men's discus toss with a long distance of 28.49 meters.

Brandmeyer and freshman jumper Jake Figueiredo (Wethersfield, Conn.) are both set to continue their seasons on Saturday, May 6 at the NCAA Division III New England Championships hosted by Williams College. Brandmeyer qualified in the men's 3000 meter steeplechase while Figueiredo qualified in both the men's long jump and men's triple jump.
