BENNINGTON, Vt. — The Southern Vermont College outdoor track & field coaches have named junior Aden Fischer (Arlington, Vt.) the team's Athlete of the Week for the Mountaineers' meet at the University at Albany on April 23, 2016.
Fischer pushed himself in a field of tough competition at UAlbany's Spring Classic, setting a new personal best and climbing up the school's record list in the men's 800 meter run.
He took 12.92 seconds off his time from last week in the event and shaved 4.33 seconds off his previous PR to turn in a 2:09.27 showing. That moved him from sixth all the way up to third on the SVC all-time record list for the discipline.
"Aden has worked hard and had this goal in mind all season," commented Southern Vermont head coach Kathleen Newton. "It was great to see him have a breakout race! He runs cross and track for SVC and is a great team contributor. Hitting this time will give him the confidence to improve in all of his events."
"He ran strong and confident from the start to the finish," Newton continued. "After his race he said 'That was the hardest I ever pushed myself; it really hurt.' Then he smiled knowing it was all worth it!"
Fischer and the Mountaineers now prepare for the final meet of the regular season, heading to Regis College on Sunday, May 1 for the Pride Invitational that will serve as the final opportunity for the athletes to qualify for postseason championships.
