ALBANY, N.Y. — The Southern Vermont College track & field team competed in the 2015 Albany Invitational Saturday, going up against a tough field that included Division I and II squads.
Seven of the 15 Southern Vermont entries went for personal-best marks with four setting new school records at the meet hosted by the University at Albany.
Sophomore Justin Ferguson (Broadalbin, N.Y.) finished 13 in a tough field of 27 participants who ran the 800 meter event, taking over two seconds off his previous record for a new SVC-best 2:05.64. Classmate Shelby Whitman (Bennington, Vt.) set a new Mountaineer low in the women's 800 meter run, crossing the line at 2:38.00.
Freshman Patrick McGovern (Cheshire, England) ran the 100 meter dash in 11.29 seconds, the eighth-best time out of 21 entries; he then placed seventh in the finals with a new program-best of 11.27. Sophomore Davante Jordan (Great Mills, Md.) leapt almost a whole meter further than his previous best in the long jump, setting a new SVC record with a mark of 6.71 meters; that was the fifth-best on the day out of 14 participants.
Southern Vermont concludes the season next Sunday, April 26 at the Regis College Invitational.
