ATTLEBORO, Mass. – Southern Vermont College took claim to the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Men's Cross Country Rookie of the Week honor for the period ending October 1, 2017 as Bennington College freshman C.G. Holden (Pittsburgh, Pa.) won the award on Monday.
Holden chalked up a new personal record on Saturday as the Bennington freshman posted a 28:57 on the 8,000 meter course at the Keene State College Invitational. His pace of 5:50 per mile saw the rookie come through second for the Mountaineers and 38 seconds faster than his previous personal best.
The Mountaineer rookie was joined in collecting league honors by SVC sophomore Davanté Smith (Ellenville, N.Y.) who was tabbed the NECC Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week. Southern Vermont swept all four of the cross country accolades as Bennington College senior Annika Kristiansen (Keene, N.H.) was named the Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week while SVC freshman Emily Ikonen (Hubbardston, Mass.) collected her second-straight Women's Cross Country Rookie of the Week laurel.
Holden and the Mountaineers are back at it on Saturday, October 14 when they head to Western New England University for the Golden Bear Invitational; that will serve as Southern Vermont's final meet before the NECC championships on October 28.
