BENNINGTON, Vt. – Southern Vermont College freshman Davante Smith (Ellenville, N.Y.) has been named the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Men's Cross Country Rookie of the Week for the second-straight week, this time for the period ending September 25, 2016 as announced by the league on Monday.

Smith had a great showing at Williams' Purple Valley Classic on Saturday, finishing fifth for Southern Vermont. He crossed the line of the 8k with a time of 30:24, setting a split pace of 6:06 per mile on the Mount Greylock Regional High School course.

SVC swept the league's men's cross country weekly honors on Monday for the fourth time this year as Mountaineer sophomore Stephen McCall (Brockton, Mass.) collected his first career NECC Runner of the Week accolade.

Smith, McCall and the Southern Vermont squad are back in action this Saturday, October 1 with an 11:15 a.m. start at the Keene State Invitational.
